Ashiedu Keteke Community Participation Project

GROWTH initiated AKCPP with members from the community in 1996 to complement the efforts of the Sub-District in improving upon health and sanitation. The project’s aims are:

  • to improve the solid waste disposal situation in the project area
  • to educate on health and sanitation issues
  • to sensitise the community in managing their environment
  • to promote the recycling of waste.

Ashiedu Keteke Community Participation Project (AKCPP) is a project engaged in waste collection, recycling, production of quality compost and education. Ashiedu Keteke is one of six sub-districts in the Accra Municipal Area (AMA), centrally located in Ghana´s capital Accra. The area of operation within Ashiedu Keteke is a densely populated, indigenous low-income area.

Having once started with few pushtrucks, AKCPP today operates traktors to collect and transport waste to their compost site while rejects are deposited.
